A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis. Facilities provided may range from modest quality mattress in a small room to large suites with bigger, higher quality beds, a dresser, a fridge and other kitchen facilities, upholstered chairs, flat screen television and en-suite bathrooms. Small, lower priced hotels may offer only the most basic guest services and facilities. Larger priced hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as swimming pool, business centre (with computers, printers and other office equipment) childcare, conference, and event facilities, tennis or basketball courts, gymnasium, restaurants, day spa and social function services.

Businesses you can start with low capital

WHO CAN OWN OR INVEST IN HOTEL BUSINESS
Don’t wait till you have millions in your account before setting up a hotel business. We have small and large scale hotel depending on your capital at the point of start. A small scale hotel may later become a large one depending on sales and management.
For a small scale hotel, let’s assume you start with a house with 10 rooms and you charge #3,500 per night, if all rooms get occupied in a night, you will make #3,500 × 10 = #35,000 on daily basis. That will amount = #1,050,000 per month aside the extra income from your bar and kitchen.

CONCEPT OF A HOTEL
A hotel is beyond just bed, sex, sleep and wake. A hotel is a place of relaxation and comfort superior to what you get in most homes. Most customers see hotel as a place where you come to have sex and pass the night. A hotel sometimes to the educated elites is where you come once in a while to clear your head and think things through. You’ll agree with me that no one can be comfortable in a hotel that is not clean and comfortable.

STEPS TO TAKE TO KICK START A HOTEL BUSINESS
1. HOTEL REGISTRATION
Choose a nice and attractive name, easily pronounced name that will not cause confusion for those seeking the hotel i.e one person thinks it’s pronounced this way another person thinks it’s pronounced that way. Then proceed to registering the name with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as guided by the Constitution; you have to first register the name of your business and ascertain if someone else is not using the same name as yours for the same product or service.

How To Scale Through Tough Business Situations

2. CHOOSING YOUR LOCATION
Location in hotel business is the most important thing to be considered. You don’t just settle for a place to start a hotel business. If you are going for a small scale hotel business that doesn’t mean you can’t erect a building but if you can’t afford one yet, rent one. A beautiful building even if it’s the common face me i face you with a reasonable room size and structure for comfort. Furnish your hotel to a good taste regardless of the price you’re going to be charging your customers, because this will however last for a long time, equip the room with quality materials; the mattress, bed spread, duvet, fan, air-conditioning machine, curtains etc.

4. STAFFING
You will need staffs in all departments of a hotel, a manager or a supervisor who is experienced and skilled in hotel business line of business especially a graduate of hotel management and technology (HMT) .

You will need to employ literate Barmen, Receptionists, Room Attendants, Cleaners and An Administrator. You can as well administer by yourself if you can.

You will need adequate security ( a handful of them) because the hotel is open to all manner of people; those with good and bad motives.

You will need caterers for the good service and the general well being of customers that regards feeding in the hotel.

You will need capable hands to manage the laundry services, taking care of the bedsheets, curtains, towels, duvet and the customer’s cloths too. Also, all used bed spread should be picked up by the cleaners and passed down to the laundry department immediately a customer is exiting the room.

However, one thing is also very important, no matter the stability of the power supply of the hotel’s environment, get a STANDBY GENERATOR.
